Fast arithmetic

nistp224 performs NIST P-224 point multiplication in under a millisecond on a modern CPU. Computing the secret shared between Alice and Bob, given Alice's secret key and Bob's public key, is an example of point multiplication.

nistp224 holds the world speed records for elliptic-curve point multiplication at a 224-bit security level. It is 1.6x faster than the best previous software on a Pentium, for example; 1.8x faster on a Pentium III; three times as fast on a Pentium 4; and several times faster on an UltraSPARC.
