Subject: Filing requirements -- Economic Interest Statements Date: Fri, 25 Mar 2005 11:38:06 -0600 Message-ID: From: "Paine, Renee" To: Cc: "Cooper, Penny" Mr. Bernstein, The ethics officer with the University of Illinois determines by looking at the Illinois compiled statutes who is required to file the economic interest statements. The ethics officer then certifies to us a listing (names and addresses) of individuals that she has determined are required to file. The Secretary of State's office mails out statements of economic interest to all the individuals on the list. The Secretary of State's office is the filing agency for the statements. In order for anyone to be taken off of the list to file that would need to be sent to us in writing from the ethics officer with the University. We can not remove anyone unless the agency(s) submits names in writing. For your reference the Illinois compiled statutes are 5 ILCS 420 and 5 ILCS 430. 5 ILCS 420 refers to who is required to file. I hope this helps answer your question on this issue. Your ethics officer's name is Donna McNeely, she should be able to tell you how she determined you were required to file. If you need to call me my number is 217-524-0309. Thank You Renee Paine Public Records Index Department
