When asked for an explanation, the University Ethics Officer blamed the Office of University Counsel. When asked for a copy of the memo, the University Ethics Officer said that she hadn't actually ever seen it, but that she had heard about it from her predecessor. Is it true that the Office of University Counsel had something to do with this? If so, who at the Office of University Counsel should I discuss this with? ---D. J. Bernstein, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science, University of Illinois at Chicago
